7. How many Long-/Short-Signals?
How often do Long or Short signals occur?
- Stock markets are generally biased toward long positions over time.
- As expected, Proton has also predominantly generated long signals in the past, accounting for approximately 38% of all cases. Around 19% of all analysis were short, while roughly 43% were classified as neutral.
- Of course, this historical distribution does not guarantee that future signal proportions will follow the same pattern.
- keep in mind that we always work with LIMIT-Orders, what means that not all signals are triggered (signal-rate vs. trade-rate)
How many signals does PROTON generate per year?
- The PROTON System is strictly focused on quality over quantity. It does not trade every day, but only when there is a statistically significant probability of a clear market movement.
- Approximately 100 to 140 signals are generated per year, which averages to about 2–3 positions per week.
- This selective approach ensures a high success rate while minimizing unnecessary market exposure.
The trading frequency varies depending on market conditions:
- In volatile phases, the number of trades may increase slightly
- In quiet market phases, the system remains disciplined and trades less frequently
What`s the Difference between Signal-Rate and Trade-Rate?
PROTON provides between 100 and 140 trading signals per year, as mentioned. However, since we always use LIMIT orders, not all of these signals result in executed trades.
This leads to a noticeable difference between the signal-rate and the trade-rate:
- Approximately 63% of all LONG signals were actually triggered.
- Approximately 68% of all SHORT signals were triggered.
